Vape Tanks
A tank is the component of your vape kit that contains both the e-liquid and the coil, which turns it into vapour. When the tank is filled, the wick is saturated in the vape juice and the coil is heated. This then heats the liquid and creates vapour. Tanks can come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Anatomy Of The Vape Tank
Most modern tanks have similar principles. These include; a glass or plastic tank section, a top section and a ‘chimney,’ which provides an airway through the tank, a drip tip (often replaceable), a bottom section, and the coil.
MTL and DTL Tanks
Mouth to Lung
Mouth to Lung tanks have a tighter draw to more accurately replicate the feeling of smoking a traditional cigarette. The vapour is first pulled into the mouth and then inhaled. To achieve this, MTL tanks often have a thin mouthpiece and an airflow control ring at the base of the tank, which allows vapers to adjust the airflow settings depending on their preferences.
Mouth to Lung tanks require less power and produce less vapour. It is best to pair these devices with a 50/50 e-liquid or e-liquid with a low nicotine content.
Direct to Lung
Direct to Lung tanks – also known as Sub-Ohm tanks – have a loose draw, which produces more vapour. The vapour is inhaled directly into the lungs, which creates a slightly different sensation than when smoking. Direct to Lung tanks have a wider mouthpiece to allow for maximum airflow. Airflow control rings are sometimes included, meaning that vapers can personalise their experience.
DTL tanks require higher power and are best suited for e-liquid with a higher vegetable glycerin content.
Standard Vape Tanks
Standard tanks are easy to use as they use disposable coil heads that can be simply replaced with a new one once they have burned out. Installing the new coils is very straightforward. For this reason, standard vape tanks are popular amongst new vapers or those switching from more traditional vape kits.
Rebuildable Vape Tanks
Rebuildable vape tanks allow experienced vapers to personalise their device by building and installing the coils and wicking material. Rebuildable tanks are available in both MTL and DTL styles. However, they are only recommended for those who have substantial knowledge of how vape kits work. These tanks are also known as atomisers and are available in two options: Rebuildable Dripping Atomizers and Rebuildable Tank Atomizers.
