What is Vape Liquid / E-Liquid?
E-Liquid, also known as vape juice, is the flavoured fluid used in vape kits. Once it has been heated by the coil, this liquid turns into a vapour that is inhaled. Generally, e-liquid is made up of three ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Vegetable Glycerine, and Flavourings. Vegetable Glycerin (VG) and Propylene Glycol (PG) work together to create a balance of flavour and throat hit.
Additionally, some e-liquids also contain nicotine, where others require users to add nicotine shots or nic salts to set their desired strength.
Why is VG used in Vape Liquid?
Vegetable Glycerine is a thick, food grade chemical that produces large clouds with less intense flavour, and a smooth throat hit. Vape liquids with a high VG content work best with a Direct to Lung device with a lower resistance coil.
Why is PG used in Vape Liquid?
Another food grade ingredient, Propylene Glycol carries more flavour and helps to balance the vegetable glycerin so that it does not become too thick. The throat hit produced by PG tends to be harsher than with VG, however, there is less vapour. This makes e-liquids with a higher PG percentage more suitable for Mouth to Lung devices as it vaporises better in higher resistance coils.
E-Liquid Flavours
Vape Liquid comes in a variety of different flavours from fruit, to dessert, to soda. Whatever your preferences, there is sure to be a vape juice flavour you will enjoy. We stock multiple brands such as Vampire Vape, Donut King, Elux, and our own SMKD Vape Juice, each with their own unique flavours, but if you are unsure of which vape juice is right for you, make sure to pop into our store and ask one of our expert staff members for advice. To find your nearest SMKD shop, browse the vape shop locator page on our website.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is vape juice and what are its main ingredients?
Vape juice, also called e-liquid, is the fluid used in vape devices to produce vapour. It typically contains four ingredients: propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), flavourings, and optional nicotine.
How do I choose the right nicotine strength in vape juice?
Nicotine strength depends on your previous smoking habits. Light smokers usually prefer 3-6mg, moderate users 6-12mg, and heavy smokers 12-18mg. You can adjust based on throat hit and satisfaction.
What is the difference between PG and VG in vape Liquid?
PG (propylene glycol) provides a stronger throat hit and better flavour, while VG (vegetable glycerin) produces more vapour and a smoother inhale. Many vape juices use a blend of both.
Does Vape Liquid expire or go bad?
Yes, vape juice typically lasts 1 to 2 years. Signs of expiry include colour changes, separation, or a sour smell. Store in a cool, dark place to maximise shelf life.
Is vape juice suitable for vegetarians or vegans?
Most vape juices are vegan-friendly, especially those using plant-derived VG and synthetic flavourings. Check labels or brand websites to confirm.
What is ‘vaper’s tongue’ and how does vape juice cause it?
Vaper’s tongue is a temporary loss of taste from using the same vape juice for too long. Try switching flavours, drinking water, or using a tongue scraper to restore flavour perception.
How should I store my vape juice?
Keep vape juice in a cool, dry, and dark place. Avoid direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Always replace the cap tightly after use.
Is vaping vape juice safer than smoking cigarettes?
While not risk-free, vaping vape juice is considered significantly safer than smoking because it avoids combustion and tar. It may help some users quit smoking entirely.
Can I use vape juice without nicotine?
Yes, nicotine-free vape juice is widely available and ideal for users who enjoy vaping flavours but want to avoid nicotine entirely.
Are there any side effects from using vape juice?
Possible side effects include dry mouth, sore throat, or coughing, especially when starting out. These are usually temporary and can be reduced by staying hydrated or adjusting your setup.
