This week, SMKD tested out a pod kit from the OXVA Origin series. As big fans of the OXVA Xlim range, we were excited to look at another creation by the same brand. So, without further ado, here is SMKD’s OXVA Origin SE review.
Designed by Justin Lai, the Origin SE is a device described by the company as a “tiny vape beast.” It is a minimalist compact device with brilliant cloud production capabilities. The Origin SE comes with a 1400mAh battery and offers both auto-draw and manual draw options.
Inside the box is 1x Origin SE Device, 1x Origin SE Cartridge, 1x Type-C charging cable and 1x user manual. The Origin SE comes with two Unicoils (0.3 ohm, 0.5 ohm and 1.0 ohm). It also includes a free lanyard.
The OXVA Origin SE is a pretty unique design. It looks, to me, a bit like a flattened cylinder but slimmer at the front. The ridges at the back add a bit of detail to the smooth body. The device has a feminine appearance: fashionable yet minimalist. It is available in eight different colours. I’m not a huge fan of the solid colours. These include Tiffany Blue, Sakura Pink, Silver Grey, and Magenta Pink as well as matte black. However, the gradient designs are nice. I think my personal favourite would have to be the gradient blue.
Purposely designed for portability, the Origin SE is a very light device. At only 53g, it feels great to hold and can fit very comfortably in a pocket. It would also fit perfectly in a handbag. The pod kit does come with a free lanyard. However, to me, it does feel like a bit of an afterthought. There isn’t a hook for the lanyard. Instead there is a rubber band on the end of it that you wrap around the device. Because of this, I think the Origin SE is definitely best carried in a bag or a pocket.
All in all, I liked the look and feel of the OXVA Origin SE. It has a unique design. While the colours aren’t what I would usually go for, I did enjoy the gradient designs. What I liked most about the build was how light and compact it felt. Yet it still maintaining the capabilities of heavier devices.
Overall, I thought the device was pretty easy to use and there were a lot of features that meant it was easy to customise. To start, the OXVA Origin SE comes with three coils; a 0.3 ohm, 0.5 ohm and 1.0 ohm. One of the things I look for in any vaping device is choice. That is exactly what the Origin SE offers. Not only did the device cater for my preferences, but it made changing the coils so easy.
The coils this pod comes with are OXVA’s very own creation that use a push fit technique. The so-called Unicoils come with anti-spitback, anti-leakage technology. I found that, while there was a bit of leakage over time, changing the coil was simple enough.
Refilling the tank is pretty standard. You just remove the rubber bung at the back of the tank. What I liked about it was that the bung is bigger than on a lot of tanks. This makes it easier to open and less likely to be damaged over time.
Yet another option the Origin SE offers is a choice between auto draw and pressing the single button. The button can be used to control wattage and to lock the device. To control the wattage, the user clicks the button three times. The three LED lights on the front indicate the wattage settings; one for low, two for mid, and three for high. Four clicks will lock the device. I found this a really handy feature.
The airflow can also be controlled, but it was complicated. The airflow is adjusted on the coil rather than the device itself. I wasn’t too keen on this feature as you have to remove the tank to access it. It also makes it harder to auto draw so you have to use the button instead. However, this technique does prevent the airflow from accidentally being changed in your pocket. So, I can understand why it was built this way.
I was most impressed by the battery life of the Origin SE. With a 1400mAh battery, the power lasts for ages and only takes thirty minutes to reach 80% battery. It doesn’t take much longer to fully charge.
For the most part, I thought the OXVA Origin SE was relatively straightforward to use and I enjoyed the variety of options available. It was impressive how much power was behind such a petite device.
The flavour the Origin SE produces is fairly accurate. Although the flavour isn’t quite as strong as with the OXVA Xlims, it was still pretty decent. I thought the delivery was really smooth as well, this might have something to do with the unicoils, which are designed to deliver maximum flavour. What I was most curious to see was the Origin SE’s cloud production. Advertised as a device with a “small body,” but “big cloud,” I wondered if it would live up to its name. To my surprise, the OXVA Origin SE creates a massive cloud despite its miniature size.
The OXVA Origin SE is a great kit altogether. The battery power and duration is brilliant for its size, and it still manages to produce a great cloud. I also thought the flavour was great (it can be difficult to find a device that doesn’t alter the flavour of the e-liquid). Although, in my opinion the solid colours would be more suited to those who like a softer, feminine design, the gradient colours were nice and would look great on anyone.
